Pin Ups Win WWII

Yeah, I know this is a few days late.

The title is not meant to undermine the efforts of our troops during WWII. Neither is this piece.

But. . . .The Pin Up did play a role in WWII as, of all things, a moral booster!

One of the most famous images of World War II, beloved by millions of soldiers in Europe and the Pacific, was a cheesecake picture of the box office bomb shell in her bathing suit turned with her assets towards us and peeping at us over her right shoulder!

Pin Ups/Cheesecake photos were everywhere , tacked on foot lockers, painted on noses of airplanes, taped up in the interiors of our Sherman tanks.

Some could say that Betty Grable helped win the war by keeping morale high. :)

Pin Ups were for many a symbol for what they were missing and in part what they were fighting for.

It would be hard to see a Pin Up as anything but healthy as apple pie and ice cream.

Pin Ups were everywhere. . .On the big screen, on the cover of numerous magazines such as Life and Esquire and in service magazines. Again they were everywhere. They would even visit the troops.

So next 4th of July don’t think of Pin Ups as just a figure of beauty but as a Patriot!
